Welcome to the official website of the Hereford, Texas Police Department. The city of Hereford, Texas is located in the Texas Panhandle and is the county seat for Deaf Smith County. Hereford is home to over 15,000 people and is home to a variety of industries including cattle feedlot operations, dairy farms and ethanol production facilities.
The police department currently consists of 28 sworn members. The police department operates two 12 hour patrol shifts, operating 24 hours a day. Additionally, members of the police department are assigned to the CID (Criminal Investigation Division), as well as working additional assignments such as School Resource Officer and other security functions. The police department also operates a 24 hour a day communications service for the City of Hereford, handling police and animal control dispatching, as well as functioning as the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for Deaf Smith County. As the PSAP, the Police Department handles all 911 calls for the county, including EMS (Ambulance) paging and Fire Department paging. The communications division is comprised of 5 personnel.
